By Jana J. Dearden
When our lives are laid before us,
And the reckoning has come.
Will our thoughts be filled with solace,
For the good that we have done?
Will our bosom swell with joy,
As we think upon our past.
And how we spent our time with others,
Did we give the gifts that last?
Did we put our best foot forward,
Although mired in the muck.
Did we reach a helping hand out,
To those who were just stuck.
Or did we hardly notice
there were others on the road.
Was our cart filled up with silver,
latest, greatest in our load.
Did we jostle for position,
Did we think ourselves more fair?
Were we traveling with such hurry,
There was no time to care.
May we find we helped our brother,
we showed our love for all.
That we truly served as stewards
For the land and animal.
When our lives are laid before us,
And the reckoning is done.
May we stand and hold our heads up
With the setting of the sun.
